William "Bill" Bristow, 88, of Broken Bow, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 21, 2017 surrounded by his family, at the Texoma Medical Center, in Bonham, TX. Bill was born June 24, 1928, to William Edward Stemple and Mildred Alice Jones, in Kansas City, MO. Bill was later adopted by Gilbert (G.B.) Bristow. Bill graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1946. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy serving in World War II; then again in the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, Bill moved to California and later graduated from Cal State in Los Angeles. He retired from teaching after 37 years in California. He moved back to McCurtain County and opened Bristow's Steakhouse in Idabel from 1973 - 1979. Then returned to California to teach school for a brief time, but moved back to McCurtain County in 2006. Even after his time in the United States Navy, he helped with historian groups and followed the USS Iowa in doing so. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Broken Bow and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 41 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing dominoes and cards. Bill taught woodshop, was an excellent carpenter and craftsman, and was known as a jack of all trades. He was also the first lifeguard in the Beavers Bend area. Bill was a lifetime educator and learner. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and Phyllis Whann Bristow, of Cathedral City, CA. Bill leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pattie Harwell, of Broken Bow; sons, Billy Bristow, and wife, Wendee, of Foreman, AR, and Brian Bristow, and wife, Brandie, of Texarkana, TX; daughter, Shonna Bristow, of Texarkana, TX; adopted children, Gwen Galloway, of Maryland, Shon Pace (the son of the late Rita Bristow), of McCurtain County, OK; grandchildren, Dallon, Bryson, Kynlee, Shannon, Bella, Barrett, and Baylee Bristow; the mother of his children, Sharon Bristow, of Texarkana, TX; and special friends, Don and Wanda Seals, of Broken Bow, and Wilda Hendrix, of Broken Bow. A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK, with burial following at Hochatown Cemetery. Chaplain Chuck Miller will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, June 23, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK.
