Trula Jannette Griffin Cheek, 63, of Battiest, OK, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at her home. The daughter of Lester L. and Mildred (Tew) Griffin, she was born March 10, 1948 in Idabel, OK. Trula adored her grandchildren and family. She loved cooking and getting together with her family and it was very important to her that they spent as much time together as possible. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Broken Bow where she served as Treasurer and often served as a Sunday School Teacher. Trula began her college education in Wilburton at EOSC, moved on to Central State and graduated from ECU in Ada after receiving her Masters Degree in Education. She taught kindergarten and special education over the years at Lukfata, Glover, Haworth, Battiest and Smithville. Trula and Larry opened a dog kennel after she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester L. and Mildred Griffin and one sister Juanita Tucker. Trula leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Larry D. Cheek of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Greg Parnell of Watson and Melissa and Roger Walls of Battiest; seven grandchildren, Missy and Michael Calderon of NM, Samantha, Madeline and Landon Walls of Battiest, Blaine and Kenley Parnell of Watson; one brother, Kenneth Griffin and wife Kay; mother-in-law, Juanita (Foster) Cheek of Ft.
