Ted Dunavant

Theodore "Ted" Franklin Dunavant, age 92, of Hatfield, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, October 19, 1932 to Edward Kirkland and Ida Crenshaw Dunavant in Shallowater, Texas.

Ted was a man of boundless cheer and humor, known for his big smile that could light up any room. He found joy in the outdoors, working on his land, and crafting exquisite pieces of furniture as a talented woodworker. Ted cherished nature, especially when fishing, and his intelligence shone throughout his life. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and later built a remarkable career at the telephone company, rising to be second only to the Vice President through his hard work and dedication. After retirement, Ted constructed a house from plans designed by his beloved wife, Araminta. A devoted family man and husband of 71 years, Ted brought happiness to everyone in his family and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Kirkland Dunavant and Ida Ellen Crenshaw Dunavant; one brother, Robert L. Dunavant; and five sisters, Ethel Porterfield, Clara Everhart, Fay Melton, Florence Calvert, and Willo Dean Garrett.

Ted is survived by his wife of 71 years, Araminta Dunavant of Hatfield; two daughters and son in law, LaDonna Meador of Hatfield and Twila and Eric Miller of College Station, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney Ellen Meador, Samual and Hanna Miller, and Alexis Grace Miller and her fiancé, Caleb; several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas with Brother Ronnie Phillips officiating. Interment will follow the service at Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
