Stanley Oral Newman, 95, of the Sherwood Community, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home in Sherwood, surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was born at Waldron, AR, on August 6, 1921, the second son of Ed Simon and Grace Belle (Parks) Newman.He worshipped the Lord "in the Beauty of Holiness" at the Mt. Herman Holiness Church (and surrounding churches) for almost eighty years, having been saved as a teenager in a cottage prayer meeting at Ravia, OK. He and his siblings were baptized there shortly afterwards.Stanley met the love of his life there at Ravia also, and on May 29, 1943 he married Ednalee Pierce and they enjoyed over 71 years of marriage together. Besides going to church, Stanley loved to be in the great outdoors, enjoying the Lords' wonderful creation. He was a master woodsman, who equally enjoyed hunting white tailed deer and turkey in McCurtain County, or elk in the mountains of Colorado. He was a sort of pioneer in this area of the sport of "noodling" or "grappling" catfish, having learned the art well as a boy on the Canadian River around Asher, OK. From May to October, he often could be found on Mt. Fork River, with family in tow, with a stringer of appaloosa catfish!Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ednalee; a daughter, Joy Smith; granddaughter, Rebecca Lee Smith; and two sons-in-law, Billy O. Smith and Jim Deither; three brothers, J.H., Glen, and Barrett; one sister, Eva Lois; two foster sisters, Cecile and Esther.Stanley is survived by three daughters, Carmella Deither, of Sherwood; Mary Wiley and Jerry, of Sherwood, and Yelena Kincaid and Naaman, of Mt. Herman; two sisters, Yvonne Jack and Coletta Lively; sisters-in-law, Rudine, Jackie and Nelcene Newman; grandchildren, Rachelle, Regina, Bryon, Brad, Bruce, Jaime, Jeremy, Paula, and Katrina; great-grandchildren, David, Tabi, Matthew, Andrew, Bethany, Sascha, Kristina, Joshua, Ryley, Jayson, Aaron, Kayelyn, Carson, Eric, Dyllan, Julia, Sean, Jazmyne, Kaydence, Meredyth, Ethan, Lillian; and great-great grandchildren, Caid and Castynn, and one on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at the Sherwood Community Center/Fire Dept. with Bro.
