Sam Battiest Obituary (1955 - 2018)

Sam Battiest, 62, of McAlester, OK, passed away at Mercy Hospital, Ft. Smith, AR, on August 28, 2018. He was born November 15, 1955 in Wright City to George and Hester (Hardy) Battiest.Sam was affiliated with the Kulli Chito Presbyterian Church and had lived in McCurtain County until he graduated high school then moving to McAlester, OK. While Sam was in school, he enjoyed boxing and won several trophies. Sam also loved being the catcher for his softball team. He played softball with his friends until his health declined; he played in several tournaments. As everyone knew, Sam loved kids. He never had kids of his own but loved his nieces and nephews as his own. He loved picking on them, giving them a hard time, but most of all taking them to the store to buy them candy. Sam also loved to listen to Choctaw Hymns. People will remember Sam as a jokester, and all around funny guy.Sam was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hester Battiest; two sisters, Bernice Marlow and Suzanna Battiest; brother, Vernie Battiest; and two nieces, Audra Sampson and Jackie Sanchez.Sam leaves to cherish his memory, his two brothers, Wayne Battiest, of Wright City, and Ricky Battiest, of McAlester; two sisters, Mattie Battiest, of Oklahoma City, and Nettie Webb, of Wright City; several nieces and nephews, along with his great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 2:00PM, at Kulli Chito Presbyterian Church, in Bethel, with Rev. Emerson Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Kulli Chito Cemetery. A Wake Service is scheduled for Friday, August 31, 2018, from 6-8PM, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK.
