Ronald L. Broussard Sr.

–

Springdale, Arkansas

Ronald Lawrence Broussard Sr., lovingly known as Ron or Bruce to his family and friends, passed away on September 27, 2026, in Johnson, Arkansas. He was born on August 4, 1945, in Kaplan, Louisiana, to Eledier and Gladys Broussard.

Ron lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and service to others. Ron began his working life on his family’s rice farm in Gueydan, Louisiana, and spent as much time as possible outdoors hunting, fishing, and boating with his daddy. At the age of 17, Ron left the family farm to serve in the United States Navy. While stationed in Galveston, Texas, he met the love of his life, Carla Darlene Varner Broussard. Their meeting began a marriage that would span 60 years, built on love, faith, commitment, and family.

After his Navy service, Ron worked for his father-in-law at the Overhead Door Company of Galveston.

In December 1972, Ron and his family moved to West Monroe, Louisiana, where he attended the White’s Ferry Road School of Preaching. His calling to ministry became a defining part of his life. In 1975, he began his first official ministry at the Crowley Church of Christ in Louisiana. For the next 40 years, Ron served as a Church of Christ minister in communities throughout Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas, including Nacogdoches, Warren, Franklin, Port Neches, Greenville, Houston, Mena, and Hatfield. Through his preaching, teaching, and service, he devoted himself to sharing his faith and serving others.

Ron was also a hardworking and skilled construction professional. In 1994, he established his own construction company, Acadian Construction, in Mena, Arkansas, which he operated for approximately six years. He later worked as a construction superintendent, traveling throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Florida, Oklahoma, and Tennessee until his retirement.

Above all his professional accomplishments, Ron was a family man. He loved his wife, his children, and especially his grands and great-grandchildren. Family was at the heart of his life, and the relationships he built with those closest to him were among his greatest treasures.
Ron enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers, and University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He always considered it a good day when two of his favorites faced off on the field. His love of sports provided plenty of excitement, conversation, and memories with family and friends.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carla Darlene Varner Broussard; and their four children, Ronald Lawrence “Ronnie” Broussard Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Richard Earl “Ricky” Broussard and his wife, Dolores, Ronda Deelene Broussard Wagner and her husband, Chad, Rebecca Jolene “Becky” Broussard Lynch and her husband, Hunter.

Ron’s siblings and extended family include: Wilma Broussard (deceased), Ethelene Meaux and her spouse, Ivy (both deceased), James Broussard and his spouse, Florence (deceased), Murlyn Broussard and his spouse, Mona, John Broussard (deceased), Millie Vondanstein and her husband, Bobby Watzil, Brother-in-law Foy Earl Varner Jr. and his wife, Helen, Sister-in-law Darla Carlene Smith and her husband, Allen.

Ron leaves behind his cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Bradley Broussard and Rachel, Katie Broussard Edwards and Devin, Brandon Stanger, Travis Broussard (deceased), Tyler Stanger and Allison, Richard Broussard and Angela, Montine Broussard Smith and Bryce (deceased), Ryan Stanger and Lauren, Trystian Broussard and Hailey, London Stanger, Grace Lynch, Hope Lynch, Joy Lynch, Grace Earnhart (through marriage) and Allen.

He also leaves behind his beloved great-grandchildren: Hayden and Benjamin Edwards, Carli Earnhart, Penelope Broussard, and Lincoln Broussard.

His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy. The love he shared with them will continue through the generations, carried forward in the memories and traditions of his family.

And, of course, there are the numerous nieces, nephews, outlaws, adopted family members, and groupies of the Broussard and Varner clans who were also part of Ron’s extended family and his life. There are simply too many to name, but each holds a place in the memories of the family.

Ron Broussard’s life was a journey of faith, service, hard work, and love. From the rice fields of Louisiana to his years in the Navy, from construction sites and campgrounds to church pulpits, he lived a life shaped by dedication and purpose.

He was a husband who shared six decades of life with his wife, a father who raised four children, a grandfather who treasured his grands and great-grandchildren, and a minister who devoted many years to serving others. While his passing leaves a profound absence in the lives of those who loved him, his legacy will continue through his family, the faith he shared, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

Ron will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing, and may the love he gave his family continue to live on for generations to come.
