Roger Gilbert

Roger Gilbert, age 72, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Mena Regional Health System. Roger was born on Sunday, March 28, 1954, to Buford Eugene and Bessie Melissa Little Gilbert in Mena, Arkansas.

Roger was the best around, a kind hearted man with an odd sense of humor that could make you laugh and a genuine desire to help others, especially children. He drove a school bus for 35 years and also worked in maintenance for Acorn Schools, where he always kept an eye out for kids who needed a little extra help. If a child needed a new pair of shoes, an encouraging word, or simply someone to care, Roger was there to help. He had coffee with his friends every morning and, being a talented baker, often brought along brownies or whatever he had been baking. Roger loved his two dogs, Cooper and BJ, very much. Sherry was the light of his world, and he loved her with all his heart. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and he always loved camping. He was a natural tinkerer and was talented at mechanic work, especially working on small engines and fixing things around the house. Roger liked to do things his way, but his big heart always showed through. He was a talented and caring man who became a natural role model to those around him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Bessie Gilbert; two brothers, Richard Gilbert and Neil Gilbert; and three sisters, Betty Fretz, Sue Stewart, and Joyce Gilbert.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sherry Sue Gilbert of Mena; his brothers and sisters in law, David and Tawanna Gilbert, Mark and Jeannine Gilbert, Susan Gilbert, and Pat Gilbert; his sisters and brother in law, Martha and Jim Gurnick, and Andrea Gilbert; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.
