R.V. McKinney 83, of Bethel, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Texarkana, TX. He was born October 9, 1926 in Bethel, OK the son of Frank and Idell (Helton) McKinney. R.V. married Wanda Bowen on December 20, 1950 in DeQueen, Arkansas. He was a life long rancher and farmer, logger and later retired from the Choctaw Electric Coperative. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. R. V. was fluent in the Choctaw language, served in the U.S. Navy and was a great family and community historian. He was an avid reader of all subjects including the Bible he was affiliated with the Bethel Baptist Church. R.V was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers James, Paul, and Jack McKinney; three sisters, Madge Henderson, Lois McKinney, and Betty Garcia; one grandchild, Darby Walters, and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Burnett. He is survived by his wife Wanda McKinney of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ramona Myers of Bethel, OK, Deb McKinney and husband Al Para of Broken Bow, OK, and Jackie and Randall Walters of Battiest, OK, Pamela McKinney of Wister, OK; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Della of Antlers, OK; a sister, Jane Kerbo of Sacramento, CA; nine grandchildren, Micki Jernigan of Towson, MD, Misty Baggs of Heavner, OK, Sab Smith of Bethel, OK, Tyson Walters of Durant, OK, Captain Scott Burnett, currently deployed in Iraq, Jodie Hendricks of Poteau, OK, Courtney Axton of Battiest, OK, Cole Walters of Battiest, OK, and Andrew Para of Virginia Beach, VA; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14 at 10:00 AM at the Battiest Assembly of God Church in Battiest, OK with Bro David Hardin officiating.
