Mena, Arkansas

In Loving Memory of Preston Wayne DuBose

With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Preston Wayne DuBose, on October 19, 2026. He passed away at home in Mena, Arkansas at the age of 77. Prior to his retirement, he and wife resided on the family ranch in Thompsonville, Texas for more than 70 years.

Preston was born on December 13, 1948, in Gonzales, Texas, to James Hartford DuBose and Lexi Estelle Gray DuBose. Preston married Barbara Jane Pearson on June 20, 1971 and they spent the next 55 years together with their children Paul and Christine.

Preston graduated high school from Waelder, Texas. After high school, Preston started a successful dairy business with help from his parents and was later awarded Young Farmer of the Year. In later years he added poultry and a commercial cattle operation to the ranch enterprises. Preston was also known for creating E-Z Open Cattle Feeders, a line of rancher-built cattle feeders he sold throughout Texas and surrounding states.

He is a man of deep faith. Preston felt the Holy Spirit prompting him at an early age, nor did he ever lose his conviction and love for Christ. In Texas, he was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, and lastly Thompsonville Community Church. He also lived out his faith by volunteering with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization in cleanup efforts after hurricanes and floods. In Arkansas he served with the Mena community through various church outreach programs.

He and his wife raised their children in the church. Preston was a remarkable father, supporting his kids’ activities and encouraging their further education. He was a steadfast rock the family could always rely on.

At the age of 72, Preston and Barbara retired to their own “dream come true” lake home with mountain views in Mena, Arkansas. He and Barbara belonged to a wonderful Christian community in Mena, where he was a participating member of the First Christian Church.

Preston had a heart for beauty, adventure, and exploring roads less-traveled. He saw the beauty in nature: the mountains, streams, lakes. He enjoyed the long, far vistas of the southwest and the rugged terrains of Canada and the Alps. His concepts of beauty are reflected in his artistic metal and wood sculptures. He was awarded numerous ribbons from art shows for his woodworking. Preston would say that God and the piece of wood revealed to him what it should be.

Preston was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Louis DuBose, niece Denise Colburn, and nephew Elton DuBose.

He is lovingly remembered by his son Preston Paul DuBose and daughter-in-law Kim; daughter Christine Allegra Presley and son-in-law Trey; and grandchildren Preston Benjamin DuBose, Grace DuBose, Karissa Rollins, Kaylee Kjosa, and Sam Presley, and nieces Donna Wurst, Laura Bredt, and Gwendolyn Brunet.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in a lifetime of love and the legacy he left behind. His memory will live on through his family, the values he instilled, and the many lives he enriched.

Preston will be buried in Texas but a memorial will be held in Mena at First Christian Church.
