Pearlie Hurd

–

Idabel, Oklahoma

Pearlie Mae Hurd, age 95, of Idabel, Oklahoma, died, Thursday, July 6, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Wednesday, August 3, 1927 to Charlie and Cassie Mae Walker Vaughn in Idabel, Oklahoma.

She was a beacon of love and care, best known for her warmth towards others and her unique ministry of sending uplifting cards to those she intuited needed a kind word. She was a great believer in the power of love and the glory of God, lessons she shared and practiced throughout her life.

Pearlie devoted more than two decades of her life to serving patients at the McCurtain Memorial Hospital, where she worked as a Nurse's Assistant. In these years, she not only served her patients with professional diligence but offered them personal comfort and kindness that went beyond the call of duty. It was this same spirit of caring that characterized her life outside the hospital as well.

Beside her work, Pearlie cherished the simple joys of life. She loved going fishing with her husband Marvin, a quiet hobby that brought them close to nature and each other. Equally, she found solace and wisdom in studying her Bible, a book she considered her greatest guide and comforter.

Pearlie held the distinct honor of being the eldest member of the First Baptist Church Westside in Idabel, Oklahoma. This was not just a testament to her age but to her dedication and service to the community. Her presence in the church will be dearly missed, just as her card ministry will be remembered and cherished by those she touched.

Pearlie leaves behind a rich legacy of love, service, and faith. Her life reminds us of the extraordinary power ordinary acts of kindness can possess. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her teachings about love and God will live on in their lives. We draw comfort knowing Pearlie is now with the Lord she served so devoutly in her life. Rest in peace, Pearlie.

Pearlie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Hurd; one son, Clarence Meadows; two brother, Charlie Vaughn Jr., and Ollie Ray Vaughn; and five sisters, Clara Burris, Margie Hawkins, Ruby Butler, Arnita Turner and Helen Lewis.
