Odessie Cubit, 97, of Eagletown, OK passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side on Friday, June 30, 2017. She was born December 16, 1919 to Idis and Alberta (Bizzell) Ramsey. Odessie married Isaac Cubit at the age of nineteen. Odessie had a third grade education but that didn't stop her from attempting to learn how to read in her late seventies and early eighties. Ms. Daphnie said she was impressed at how well she did. People often commented on her beautiful smooth skin and when asked, what keeps you looking so young for your age she'd say, "All I know is hard work." Odessie was known by many names; Big Mama, Mama Dessie, Mrs. Dessie and Cousin Dessie. She had a quiet demeanor about herself but was strong in her love for her family and friends. After years as working as a share cropper and farming her own land she enjoyed homemaking and was notorious for her German chocolate cakes and sweet potato pies. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning. She was crazy about her cats and dogs as all pets loved her. She was a long time faithful member of the St. Matthews Baptist Church in Eagletown. She loved traveling to visit her great-great grandchildren in New Orleans, and taking other trips to Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac Cubit; her granddaughter, Lorraine; her son-in-law, Wellayne Lowery; nine brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Dessie is survived by her daughter, Lula Lowery; her two grandchildren, Linda Lowery of Memphis, TN and Eric Lowery of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Ozzie Wilson of Broken Bow, OK; one great-grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren; her favorite first cousin, Christine Thwaites of CA, they were like sisters that talked every day.
