Melvia C. Alexander Obituary (1929

On June 3, 1916, in the city of Sherman, Texas God sent a little angel for Mary and J. Dean Caldwell, to mold and follow in their footsteps. They called this little angel Melvia. Melvia L. Caldwell began her journey on this earth ninety-four years ago. She was the first born of three little girls and the last survivor. She later moved to McCurtain County, OK where she received her education. She later went to Langston to complete her education to become a teacher. She met and married Percy Alexander, in which she became Mrs. Melvia L. Alexander. She was not blessed to have her own personal child, but was a mentor to many children, some relatives and others belonging to the community in which she worked. She was a no-nonsense mentor. If you were to be in her care you had to care for yourself and others in your growth. She later moved to OKC, OK where she began caring for young children. She loved and cared for these children as if they were her own. She later moved back to McCurtain Co. where she was a member of First Baptist Church and remained as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her two sisters. She is survived by two nephews, Stanford Washington of Dallas, TX, and Charles Butler Jr. of California; two nieces, Charolette Kimble of California, and Wilma Butler of New York. She is also survived by her adopted children, Milen Darby and Anndrea Davis, both of Oklahoma City, OK ,and many close friends and other relatives.Cemetery:Williamston Cemetery in Idabel, OK.Visitation:6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in the Brumley Funeral Home Chspel.Service:11 a.m Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Westside in Idabel with Rev.
