Mattie Faye Johnson, 89, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, died at 10 am on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Dubuis LTAC Center, Paris, Texas. Mattie was born September 25, 1923, to Homer and Minnie Echols, Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J.E. Johnson Jr., and siblings; Nellie Chappell, Bill Echols, Homer (Bud) Echols, Doc Echols, Jim Echols, and Ben Echols. Her granddaughter, Christie LaRue, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Doris Jean Goodlett; four children, Dorothy Gibson, Jimmy Johnson, Donna Pope, and Jarrod Johnson. Surviving also are 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mattie was a strong, independent, righteous, Christian woman who led a purpose-filled life. She loved her God, her family, and friends, and her Nana Ayaka, customers. A very successful entrepreneur, she once owned a grocery store, a professional photography business, and more recently, her health food shop. Her shop provided her with opportunities for her to help people maintain or regain their health. She shared her vast knowledge of healthy living and many times gave products to those who couldn?t pay. Her Christian services include being a Sunday school teacher and a hospital volunteer. She fed her family from her bountiful gardens, working tirelessly to provide a healthy lifestyle for them. She taught her children the importance of God in their lives and the role of the church. Mattie will be greatly missed by those who love her.
