Marshel McDonald, age 81, of Mena, Arkansas, died Saturday, March 22, 2025, at home surrounded by family in Mena, Arkansas. He was born on Wednesday, December 22, 1943, to Elmer Lee and Gatsey Pairlee McDonald in Clarksville, Texas.
Marshel lived a life full of diverse passions and deep connections with both his community and the natural world. As a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving in the Vietnam War, he showed his dedication to his country and fellow veterans. His military background was an important part of his identity, and his involvement in the VFW provided him with a network of lifelong friendships and a way to stay connected with his fellow servicemen and women.
In addition to his service to the country, Marshel was a member of the Harley Club Holder, an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed the thrill of the open road. His love for motorcycles was more than just a hobby; it was a lifestyle that took him to places like Sturgis, where he could be found among fellow riders, embracing the freedom and camaraderie that comes with the biking community.
Marshel’s family life was just as rich and fulfilling. A father of four and a proud grandfather, his family meant the world to him. He took joy in spending time with his grandchildren, offering them not only love and support but also humor that brought light and laughter to their lives. He may have been a man of few words, but his presence spoke volumes—his actions, warmth, and wit were all he needed to communicate how much he cared.
As a "jack of all trades," Marshel had a hands-on approach to life, constantly learning and applying new skills to whatever project he took on. Whether it was fixing something around the house, creating something from scratch, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, Marshel had the ability to do it all. His resourcefulness and work ethic were admired by those who knew him.
A true conservationist at heart, Marshel had a deep love for nature. He found peace and solace in the outdoors, whether it was enjoying the quiet beauty of a forest or simply breathing in the fresh air. He valued the earth and all its wonders, always striving to preserve the environment for future generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Cecil McDonald and Lindon McDonald.
