Mack Mitchell Obituary (1921 - 2011)

Mack Mitchell, 89, of Wright City, OK (Herndon Community), passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 13, 1921 in Hitchery, OK, the son of Norman and Melinda Mitchell. Mack Mitchell and Vida Ellis were united in marriage on December 5, 1947 in DeQueen, AR. Mack was a member of the Green Chapel Assembly of God. He worked for over thirty years for Weyerhaeuser and Dierks as a set-up man at the planer mill and later at the plywood department, where he retired. He loved to fish, camp, and hunt especially deer, and was known as one of the best fisherman and hunters around, a true mountain man. Mack taught his sons and other young men the joys of the outdoors and polished their hunting and fishing skills. He was a decorated WWII Army Veteran, receiving the Silver Star, and Good Conduct Medals among others and walked the beaches of Normandy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vida B. Mitchell in February 2011, his father and mother, Norman and Melinda Mitchell; six brothers, Marsh, Ray, Froman, Grover, Cliff, and Loren Mitchell; two sisters, Ulah Sanders and Beatrice Mitchell; one daughter, Maxine Mitchell; and one son, Tony Lee Mitchell.
