Kathie Mize

Martha "Kathie" Kathrine Mize, age 74, of De Queen, Arkansas passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Bear Creek Healthcare in De Queen, Arkansas. She was born on Friday, February 8, 1952 to Bernard Mize and Nita Mae Hicks Mize in Batesville, Arkansas.

Kathie was a devoted woman of faith who attended the First Baptist Church of Mena and Christ Community Fellowship Church in Mena for many years. She had a compassionate heart, especially for foster children and babies born with drug dependencies, causes that remained deeply important to her throughout her life. Kathie was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A dedicated and caring nurse, she served as an RN for 40 years, including 31 years at UAMS and 9 years at St. Michael Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, touching countless lives through her kindness, skill, and unwavering commitment to others.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother and sister in law, Bernard and Erma Mize.

Kathie is survived by several nephews, nieces, Russell Steed of Benton, Arkansas, Donna Lewis of Marquez, Texas and Vicki McCoy of Houston, Texas; four great nephews and nieces, Mason McCoy of Houston, Texas, Brittney Hufeld of The Woodlands, Texas, Ashley Perera of The Woodlands, Texas and Declan Steed of Benton, Arkansas; four great great nephews and niece, Cadence, Ryleigh, Landon McCoy of Houston, Ethan Rhett of Austin, Texas; and a host of other friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas. Interment will follow the service at the White Oak Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas.
