Thursday, December 3, 2015, Mr. Johnnie Ray Wright, Sr., of Eagletown, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord and Savior. Johnnie Ray was born in Pleasant Hill, OK, on December 31, 1935, to James Carter Wright I and Cornelia England Wright. On June 7, 1955, Johnnie Ray and Clovis Ann were united in marriage. They were blessed with five children, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Johnnie Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Carter Wright II, a grandson, Joshua Carter Wright, a sister, Marzell Miller, a brother, Donnie Merle Wright and a nephew, Clifford Miller. Johnnie Ray is survived by his wife of sixty years, Clovis Ann Hagans Wright, a son and three daughters: Johnny Ray, Jr. (Janeice) Wright, Judy (Kenny) Joiner all of Eagletown, OK, Tammy (Randall) Tabler and RaJohnia (Jimmie) Tollett all of DeQueen, AR; fourteen grandchildren, Brandi Martin, Misty (Jeff) McDonald, Mikey (Kaylie), Jamie, Kristen, and Andrea Wright; April and Kendra Joiner; Christopher (Kim) and LaKesha Wright; Lane and Braden Tabler; Jason (Tonya) Tollett and Jennifer Graves; twenty great-grandchildren: Dalton, David Neal, Kristen, Shelby, Heather, Krystal, Kennedee, Kayzlea, Rayne, Cain, Jaxson, Karley, Brycen, Kaiden, Vann, Madi, Bree, Isabella, Cloey, Greyson; one great-great grandson, Kaszon; two sisters: Geraldine Webb (Earl) of Grapevine, TX and Treva Russell (Mike) of Benton, AR; one sister-in-law: Mary Meredith of Lake Isabella, CA; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was also known as Papa John to many of the young people I who knew him. During his life, Johnnie Ray worked as a pipe liner and a heavy equipment operator. He graded roads in McCurtain County, and later Sevier County. After thirty years of service to the Sevier County Road Department, he retired in 2012. Johnnie Ray's faith in God was evident as he attended and served the Assembly of God Church at Eagletown, OK, where he played his fiddle or guitar every service. He loved music, and greatly enjoyed the old time fiddling style. He also had great love for animals, especially horses and dogs, and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Johnnie Ray Wright, Sr. was greatly loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. This earth will never be the same, and neither will the music in Heaven. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2PM Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Eagletown Gym. Burial will follow at Eagletown Cemetery with Dr. Doug Deramus and Rev. Jimmy Townsend officiating.
