Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Joey Lynn McKinney, age 48, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, October 23, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Thursday, October 27, 1977, to Silas McKinney Jr. and Betty Jean McKinney in Talihina, Oklahoma.

Joey was a member of Myrtlewood Baptist Church and a woman who held her family close to her heart. Family was the most important part of her life, and she especially cherished the time she spent with her nieces and nephews. Known as the “fun aunt,” Joey had a hard time telling them no, and they all knew that if they wanted something, Aunt Joey was the one to ask. She loved making them happy and creating memories they would carry with them forever.

Throughout her life, Joey worked for the Choctaw Nation in several different departments before pursuing her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Earning her CNA certification was one of her proudest accomplishments, and it was something that meant a great deal to her. In her free time, Joey enjoyed listening to her favorite music from the 1980s and watching classic comedy sitcoms from the 1970s. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her love for her family, and the special bond she shared with her nieces and nephews. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Joey is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Silas "Sonny" McKinney; her sister, Allison McKinney; her nephews, Bradley McKinney, James McKinney, and Casey McKinney, her paternal grandmother Eriss Mckinney; her paternal great grandmother, Georgie Mckinney; her maternal grandparents, Nellie and JD Shomo; her uncle's Johnny, Virgil and Stanley Shomo; and aunts Margie Going and Barbara Tonihka.

Joey is survived by her sister, Lisa McKinney; her brother, John McKinney; her nephews, Jamelle Walker, Kyle McKinney, Corey McKinney, Tyler McKinney, and Cole McKinney; her nieces, Taylor Johnson, Keandra Bray, Carly Harjo; twenty-four great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral home Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, with Brother Johnny Tonihka officiating. Interment to follow in the Myrtlewood Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitations. Services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
