George McElrath, 84, of Wright City OK went to be with The Lord, September 14th, 2017, at his home in Wright City after a brief illness. His loving wife and daughter were by his side, and in the thoughts and prayers of his sons, grandchildren, families, and friends who visited regularly.\nGeorge was born in Garvin, OK on March 18th, 1933 to Arthur and Kizzie McElrath. He grew up in Wright City/Broken Bow area and graduated from Wright City High School.\nIn 1955, George met and married Nina Jane Terry of Sherman, TX. They celebrated 45 loving years of marriage together and had 4 children. George was a devoted and loving husband and caregiver to Nina during her 5 year illness and untimely death from Lou Gehrig's disease in 2001.\nHe retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Master Sargeant E-7 after 24 years which included serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars and in covert operations. After retiring, he worked for the Pillsbury Plant in Denison, TX full time while earning Masters' Degrees in Industrial Arts and Psychology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Ok. George taught welding for many years at the McKinney Job Corps and the Gainesville State School before retiring again.\nGeorge loved restoring classic cars, raised cattle and horses, and ran a farm alongside his sons and father in law for many years in Sherman, TX.\nIn 2008 George married Wanda Jane Williams of Wright City, OK and happily lived out his remaining years with her there, very involved in the community. He became a Mason serving as Secretary for Wright Lodge 483, obtained his Oklahoma Outdoor Display Operator License, enjoyed heading the fireworks display at the Annual Wright City Rodeo, and was an active member of the American Legion Post 74 as the adjutant.\nGeorge was preceded in death by his father and mother, first wife Nina Jane, in-laws Curtis and Madge Terry, sisters Dimple Holly and Nellie Kennedy, and great-granddaughter Layla Grace Dawson.\nGeorge leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife Jane, sons Terry McElrath and wife Cindy, Jeffrey McElrath and wife Oksun, Donald McElrath and wife Marleen, daughter Susan Glancy and husband Joe, grandchildren Bryan McElrath and wife Jamie, Curtis McElrath, Shawna Dawson, Jason McElrath and wife Zoe, Amber Glancy, Emma Glancy, Matthew Nemec, and Mary Jane McElrath, great-grandchildren Raymond Cochnauer, Jessica Dawson, Mahala Dawson, Sophia Dawson, Eli Dawson, Colton McElrath, Addison Geist, Hailey Geist and sister in law Betty Jennings.\nGeorge was a man of faith and conviction who lived a life of service and devotion to his country, his community, and to all of us. He will be remembered especially for his generosity, willingness to help others, gracious manner, and strength and courage in the face of adversity.\nSpecial thanks to friends Dan and Inez Herndon, Donald Box, and Keith Cline who visited often during his illness, his nighttime caregiver Marcella McBride, and the Neighborhood Hospice team.\nVisitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18th, 2017 at Brumley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Wright City, OK with Rev. Oscar Wilkie officiating.
