Finton Bridges, 88, of the Golden Community, passed away October 25, 2012 at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, TX. He was born June 2, 1924 in Honey Grove, OK to James Henry and Miriam ( Matkin) Bridges. Finton married Alice Virginia Engler on January 30, 1946 in DeQueen, AR. He served in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from April 1943 thru January 1946. He retired from Beavers Bend State Park. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening. Finton had a green thumb for growing fruit and vegetables. If someone in the family had an interest in one, he would research the plant and grow it with great success. Finton was also inventive. If he needed a tool or device to make a project easier, he would make whatever his vision was. Finton was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Virginia Bridges; three sons, James Samuel, Phillip Wayne and Daniel Finton Bridges; daughter-in-law, Bridgitte Bridges; two brothers, Finley and Wayne Bridges; three sisters, Estell Richardson, Hazel Snider and Lorene Bennit. He leaves to cherish his memory, four sons, Charles Bridges and wife Ruby of Valliant, OK, Donald Bridges of Stockbridge, GA, David Bridges of DeQueen, AR and Kip and Sheila Bridges of Redland, OK; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.Cemetery:Burial will follow in the Glover Cemetery, Glover, OK \nTo send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Finton Bridges, please visit our floral store.
