Long-time Broken Bow resident Mourene Jackson passed away on October 23 at the age of 93 in Cypress Texas. Estelle Mourene Streight was born November 30, 1920 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma the first child of Asa and Mazzie Streight. She married Garland Merritt Jackson on September 15, 1940 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She lived all her life in Oklahoma - most of it in Broken Bow where she moved with her husband Garland and family in 1965 after Garland retired from a 30 year career with Halliburton. The Jackson's owned and operated the Mountaineer Cabins outside the entrance to Beavers Bend State Park for many years. Mourene and Garland were married for 51 years before his passing in 1991. She was a long-time volunteer and leader in community activities including Girl Scouting. She led Troops from Brownies to Senior Girl Scouts, volunteered at day camps, overnight camps and even led a troop on a two week stay in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Broken Bow, and the Joy Sunday School Class. Her greatest love and enjoyment in life was her family; especially her grandchildren and great -grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them on Broken Bow Lake, at the Nature Center in Beavers Bend State Park and at the library. She loved boating, picnicking, camping, water skiing, and fishing. She was a world traveler having visited London, England; Stavanger, Norway and Madrid, Spain in addition to her trip to Mexico. Mourene was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was the undisputed matriarch of her family, and provided a shining example of sacrifice, love and commitment to family. While we mourn our loss on earth, we rejoice that she will join loved ones in heaven. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, brothers, A.E. Streight and Charles W. Streight and sister, Nancy Sue Miller. She is survived by her dear brother Kenneth Streight and wife Doris of Fort Meyers, Florida. Left behind to honor her memory and celebrate her life are her children, Johnny Jackson of Dallas, TX, Ron Jackson and wife, Linda of San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, Beverly Randol and husband, Kenneth of Hockley, TX; Jim Jackson and wife, Donna of Broken Bow; Dr. Debra Jackson and husband, Dr. Wayne Johnson of Cypress, TX; Kathy Larsen and husband, Mike of Cypress, TX; special niece - Susan Russell - as well as several other nieces and nephews who were as dear to her as her own children.
