Ellie Cox

Ellie Cox of Mena, Arkansas died on May 28, 2026 at the age of 87.

Ellie was born January 14, 1939, in Springhill, Louisiana to Warren and Thelma McDuffie. Her birth name was Ida Lavonia, but she became known as Ellie when she lived in Turkey – Lavonia being hard for locals to pronounce and remember.

Ellie is preceded in death by her son, Brett Warren Walker (Alexandria, Louisiana), her father, Warren McDuffie (Springhill, Louisiana); her mother, Thelma McDuffie (Springhill, Louisiana); her brother, Jack McDuffie (Monroe, Louisiana), her sister Dorene Nesbit (Dallas, Texas); and her sister Dorothy Hearne (Marion, Ohio).

She is survived by her son and his wife, Brian and Norma Walker (Austin, Texas); her granddaughter Emily Walker Mehta and her husband Jay Mehta (Austin, Texas); her granddaughter Nicole Walker George and her husband Parker George (Austin, Texas); her grandson Jack Walker (Austin, Texas) and by her longtime friend, Eva Harrell (Mena, Arkansas). She is also survived by many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The things Ellie enjoyed the most were her children and grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She enjoyed traveling in her earlier years, one of her favorite areas being Colorado.

A memorial for Ellie will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 3pm at the First Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor and friend Donnie Jewell. Burial will take place at the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena, Arkansas – where she will be placed alongside her son Brett Walker. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.
