Lifetime Broken Bow resident Duane "Tack" Hammer, 85, entered his heavenly home on April 4, 2019.Tack was born on January 9, 1934 in Honobia, Oklahoma, the son of L.J. and Sibyl (Leigh) Hammer. The class of 1953, Tack graduated from Broken Bow High School and later obtained his Bachelors of Arts in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. On, June 8, 1957, He married the love of his life, Helen in a ceremony in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He was Co owner of Broken Bow News and worked for his father at Hammer's Grocery. Tack later moved to Tribune, Kansas teaching High School Commerce there. Tack took over Hammer's Grocery after his father retired and operated it until the early 80's. After he sold the store he worked at various jobs such as the sports complex, Cedar Creek Golf Course, and donated much of his time to this community coaching youth baseball, basketball and teaching many to ski at Broken Bow Lake. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Broken Bow.Tack was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Geneva Meadows; and many of his golfing buddies.He leaves to continue his legacy his beloved wife, Helen, of the home; one son, Mike Hammer and his wife, Sarah, of The Woodlands, TX; one daughter, Brenda Sorrells and her husband, Mark, of Idabel, OK; three grandchildren, Dakota Sorrells of Idabel, Emily Hammer and Ethan Hammer of The Woodlands, TX; one sister, Vickie Irwin and her husband, David, of West Monroe, LA; several nieces, nephews, friends and his church family.A visitation will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Broken Bow.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 8, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Pete Wilson officiating.
